Problems Resulting from Limited Social Interaction
Research has demonstrated a correlation between social isolation and loneliness and
an increased risk of physical and mental illnesses. Reported conditions include high
blood pressure, heart disease, depression, Alzheimer’s Disease, a decline in cognitive
function, and even earlier mortality.
According to Dr. Steve Cole, Ph.D., director of Social Genomics Core Laboratory at the
University of California, Los Angeles, loneliness can accelerate the buildup of plaque in
arteries, help cancer cells grow and spread, and promote inflammation in the brain
leading to Alzheimer’s Disease.
The Advantages of Tore’s Home’s Assisted Living
An assisted living facility such as Tore’s Home not only provides care for individuals as
they age but also offers opportunities for interaction and social engagement with fellow
residents. Given that the homes of Tore’s Home accommodate only six to twelve
residents, the setting is more home-like and intimate, fostering a friendlier and more
comfortable environment.
